FPL Draft strategy & tips 2026/27
Build a winning Fantasy Premier League Draft squad with player rankings, secure minutes, sharper waiver wire claims and better weekly trade decisions.
Draft for minutes, not just names
In FPL Draft, a famous player on the bench is less useful than a reliable starter. Before each pick, ask who is likely to play 70 or more minutes, whether the role is secure and what changes if one teammate returns.
Use current team news and the predicted lineups as evidence, but treat them as forecasts rather than confirmed team sheets.
Build a balanced squad
A 15-player squad needs cover at every position. Prioritise a starting goalkeeper, dependable defenders and at least one forward with a secure role before filling the bench with short-term punts.
Balance matters more in Draft because the best replacement may already belong to a rival. Keep a playable bench so one injury does not force a waiver panic.
Use scarcity by position
Compare a player with the alternatives that are actually available in your league, not with the whole Premier League. A midfielder who is only slightly better than the free-agent pool is less valuable than a defender with no realistic replacement.
Track which positions your rivals still need and protect scarce starters early. Player prices do not exist in Draft; roster access and expected minutes are the currency.
Plan for waivers and fixtures
Do not spend waiver priority on a cosmetic upgrade. Make a claim when the new player improves your expected starts, solves an injury or opens a better fixture run. Check the points predictions and upcoming fixtures together.
Keep two or three alternatives ready. News can change before the waiver process, and a rejected first choice should not leave a starting spot empty.
Set your XI before the deadline
Recheck press conferences, training updates and late injury news before the Gameweek deadline. Confirm your bench order as well as the starting XI so automatic substitutions preserve a legal formation.
